The Liebster Award or Someone Does Read This Stuff!!

I am immensely surprised to be nominated for this award on this blog, and thanks to Not-So-Modern-Girl for the nomination. I guess someone besides my partner is reading this blog, I’ve given up on asking my family they said it was too… arsey. So, Thanks again NSMG I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog!

As part of the award I’m to answer 11 questions posed by the blog who nominated me, without further ado, here we go:

• What three words best describe your reading habits?

Critical, eclectic, and… arsey (If your mom says it, it must be true)

• On average, how many books do you read a month?

Probably 2-4 depending on how much work I’ve got at university and whether I’m on kindle or paper.

• If you could visit any time in the past, where would you go and what would you do?

I’m not sure, probably the 80s to see the shoulder pads in action, and to go to a disco just to compare (and hear all the cheesy pop played unironically).

• Which character in a book has the same name as you?

The only time I’ve seen my name in a book was in a history book, and even then it’s a surname.

• What is your best reading memory?

This may very well be the hardest question on the entire list. Reading so much in the last couple of years thanks to a commute time of 30 minutes (which has since increased to 55), I’ve read a lot of books. I loved every moment of the books I read in 2016 as I read some absolute crackers: Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, Sebastian Barry’s A Long Long Way, Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things, among so many other great ones. But my best reading memory was much further back when I should have been studying for my Leaving Cert but instead opted to read 500 pages of Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb. That was definitely time well spent.

• Who is your favourite classical author (if you have one!)?

I haven’t read too many classics, but Oscar Wilde is among my favourite writers.

• If you could only have one type of weather forever, what would it be?

Being pale, ginger, and Irish, I’d not pick outright sunshine or heat, but a perfect mix of breezy with fast moving clouds and scattered sunshine would be ideal for me. Easy enough to go to a park and read a book when the weather is just right.

• If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

Jeans and a t-shirt? Or maybe a knitted sweatshirt? Perhaps nothing at all.

• If you could swap places with one character from a book, which character would it be and from which book?

I can’t imagine switching lives with someone even for a day, at least no one in any of the books I’ve read lately. Maybe someone in the background of a Harry Potter book; close enough to see the action not too close as to be in danger.

• Have you ever borrowed a book and never given it back? Or has someone borrowed your book and not given it back?

I’m not a fan of lending books, there’s so little time for all the books I tend to shy away from re-reading. If I do happen to lend a book I don’t really expect to get it back. I also recently found a copy of The Amber Spyglass on a bookshelf in my parents’ house which I may have borrowed in 2005, so I’m not great at returning borrowed books. Perhaps that’s the seed of my axiom on lending.

• Cats or dogs?

Dogs.
